Fryston Lane – New Substation, West Yorkshire

For:  Siemens Transmission &  Distribution Ltd

Client / End User:  Siemens Transmission & Distribution Ltd for Northern Power Grid

Services Provided: Civil Engineering Construction, M&E design and installation.

Scope: Fryston Lane 132kV substation provides the link from the new multi-fuel power station to the regional network. Alpha raised the site levels allowing the new HV substation foundations to be constructed. Other works included cable troughs and ducting, electrified palisade fencing and concrete fence beam. A new Control Building (brick & tile construction) was also built by Alpha to house the switchgear control equipment. These works involved the M&E installation, drainage (including new cess tank and soak away), decorative finishes and tarmac access roads.

Unusual aspects: Due to the filling exercise required to raise the site levels, we employed specialist Rolling Dynamic Compaction techniques to achieve the required ground bearing capacity.
